Versailles

Today I went to Versailles and it was amazing. Everything was decked out in gold, but I was disappointed by some of the modern art there, it depreciates everything else. It also seen out of place. for example, the dog, lobster and the green flower all very out of place. yuk. other than that, everything else was wounderful it is one thing to ready about it in textbooks, but being there is so much more than one can travel through the books. You will notice some pictures of inflatable art by Jeff Koons. He is a great artist, but inflatables does not belong in the Varsailles.

The place Versailles, or simply Versailles, is a royal chateau in Versailles, in the Ile-de-France region of France.

In French, it is known as Le Chateau de Versailles. When the chateau was built, Versailles was a country village; today however, it is a suburb of Paris, some twenty kilometers southwest of the French capital. From 1682, when King Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in 1789, the Court of Versailles was the centre of power in Ancien Regime France. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy that Louis XIV espoused.

arriving in Paris

Paris is one of the cities that I have always wanted to visit. I also wanted to go anywhere in Africa, because I miss home so much and any where in Africa will do. After much calculations I picked Paris. I started planing for it last semester and getting the visa was the scariest part of the process. I am here now so it doesn't matter.

When I arrived at Charles De Gaulle airport, I thought OMG did I get on the wrong plane to Arcata (LOL) because it was so foggy. I feel right at home because it was foggy and it had rain earlier . This airport is about 30 mins from the city. Since a group of us were arriving at the same time, were transported to our separate housing. Luckily one of my roommate was with me and offcourse we had to use the restroom really bad or else pee on ourselves LOL. So in France there is this sink called the Bidet where you wash your genitals in the bathroom. So there is a regular sink, a bath/shower and a Bidet. The toilet is in a separate room in the apartment. We had to go so bad that we completely ignore the sign that says: This is not a toilet. It was so funny when we found the toilet later. we live in a two bedroom apartment in the 13 district. Our bedroom are painted bright hot pink.

Everything is small in paris, I mean everything, ok ok maybe not everything. I will elaborate on this later. Later that evening, we went out for a cocktail and then to dinner. I had a Kaba in the Jewish quarter. Ohh those things are so good. (the first pix on the left)
